The cdrom has been extented with data from March 1998 till April 2000. Data from
1999/2000 are provided as additional data to the WOCE program.

Improvements in the
kriging method
A new version of the objective method used to calculate gridded weekly and monthly
scatterometer (ERS-1/2 and NSCAT) wind fields has been developed and tested. The main
changes concern :
- the determination of the neighborhood used to estimate a wind vector at a given grid
point. In this version, the neighborhood is determined as a successive circles centred on
grid point. The new procedure takes into account all samples located within the grid point
neighborhood (in the previous version, due to computer resources limitations, this was
limited to 20).
- the calibration of ERS winds. The IFREMER C-band model used to estimate ERS1/2 wind
speed observation has been improved to reduce bias in high wind speed range.
